Circuits and timing

How does a route become a circuit?

Record a session on your usual route. The next time you do the same route, Purple Lap spots it and shows New circuit found. Name it, and it becomes a circuit with three timed sectors. The sessions you’ve already done there are timed too.

You can also open any session that isn’t on a circuit yet and tap Make it a circuit.

What do purple, green and yellow mean?

Each sector is compared with every lap you’ve done there before it. Purple is your best ever, green is better than usual, and yellow is slower than usual.

Why didn’t a lap count?

A lap is only timed if it follows the circuit. Your engineer will tell you if it wasn’t counted, for one of three reasons:

  • Track limits: you left the circuit, for example by cutting a corner.
  • Missed sector: you didn’t pass one of the sector lines.
  • Distance: the lap was much shorter or longer than the circuit, often a sign of poor GPS.
How can I get more accurate times?

Times come from your phone’s GPS. Wait for the GPS signal before you start, keep location set to precise for Purple Lap, and carry your phone where it can see the sky. Tall buildings and thick trees make GPS drift.

Does it keep timing with the screen off?

Yes. While a session is recording, Android shows a Purple Lap notification and timing carries on with the screen off. If your phone’s battery saver stops it, set Purple Lap’s battery use to Unrestricted in Android’s settings (Apps → Purple Lap → Battery).

Can I move my sessions to a new phone?

Your sessions live on your phone and aren’t part of Google’s backup. Settings → Privacy & data → Export my data saves a copy as a file, but the app can’t import it on another phone yet. If you use online features, a new phone gets a new account, so ask your friends to add you again.

Friends and Grand Prix

How do I add friends?

Turn on Settings → Online → Online profile. Then, on the Friends tab, tap Share invite to send your link on WhatsApp or anywhere else. If a friend sends you a code instead, enter it under Got a code?

How do shared circuits and leaderboards work?

Open one of your circuits and share it. Your friends get it on their phones, and everyone who runs it lands on the same leaderboard, best laps only. Free shows your position; Premium shows the whole board.

How does a Grand Prix weekend work?

Every Saturday and Sunday (India time), each shared circuit is a Grand Prix. Your best lap on each one is ranked against everyone who ran it and scores 25, 18, 15, 12, 10, 8, 6, 4, 2 or 1 point. Results are final on Monday. Points add up over the month, and the top scorer among you and your friends is Champion.

Premium

What does Premium include?

Rocco and Ingrid as engineers, ghost mode, unlimited circuits and custom sectors, full leaderboards, Grand Prix standings and season tables, and the Purple and Minimal share cards.

How do I cancel?

Premium is billed by Google Play. Open the Play Store app, tap your profile picture, then Payments & subscriptions → Subscriptions → Purple Lap → Cancel. You keep Premium until the end of the period you’ve paid for.

I paid but Premium isn’t on

Make sure you’re signed in to the Google account you bought it with, then go to Settings → Premium → Restore purchases. Still nothing? Email us your Google Play order number (it starts with GPA) and we’ll sort it out.

Privacy and your data

Is my location shared?

No. Your GPS track stays on your phone. A circuit’s route only goes online if you share that circuit with friends, and laps on shared circuits send times, not locations. The privacy policy has the details.

How do I delete my account or data?

See Delete your account for both your online account and what’s on your phone.

The app closed unexpectedly

Sorry about that. The next time you open Purple Lap, the Garage shows what happened. Tap Share report to send it to us. It includes the error and your phone’s model and Android version, nothing else.
